3 golden rules to finally understand the composition of your cosmetics
Yasmina Depas
Reading a cosmetic ingredient list can seem as complicated as a chemistry lesson.
And yet… understanding what you apply to your skin is essential.
Here are the 3 golden rules (in theory!):
1. Read the label carefully and decipher the Latin names in the INCI list.
Not always easy, especially when the names sound like spells from Harry Potter.
2. Use apps like Yuka or INCI Beauty
They provide a quick score and help to identify controversial ingredients.
3. Be an expert, pharmacist or specialist in cosmetology.
In other words… not the majority of us 🙃
🌿 The problem?
These three rules are very difficult to follow on a daily basis.
▪️ Not everyone has the time (or the desire) to become an expert.
▪️ Not everyone has a beauty app on their phone
▪️ And the composition often remains opaque, even with the best will in the world
👉 Need a little help?
At Bloomy Cosmetics, we decided to make transparency simple.
Our peel-off labels open like a little book to explain, clearly and without jargon, the role of each ingredient.
Because understanding what you're applying to your skin should be obvious, not complicated.
✨ Some examples
▫️ “Tocopherol” → it’s simply vitamin E, an antioxidant.
▫️ “Sorbitan Monolaurate” or “Polysorbate 20” → emulsifiers that allow oil + water to be mixed.
▫️ “Ethylhexylglycerin” and “Phenoxyethanol” → preservatives, essential to guarantee the stability of the formulas.
Nothing mysterious. Nothing hidden. Just clarity.
